Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?We have several different themes. For each game session, you will be locked in one of the rooms with your friends. You need to work together as a team and try to solve all the puzzles and clues within 60 minutes to escape the room.
Locked... really?No... those pesky building and fire safety codes insist that we provide an emergency escape for each room! So if you feel claustrophobic, or if there's an emergency, you can get out of the room at any time.
How much does it cost? Our games are priced at $55 per person for all people over 5 years old, and last for one hour (60 minutes).
We have special pricing for school groups (excursions) when played Monday to Friday, and we also offer special rates for members of the Police Force, Fire Service, SES, Ambulance service and Defence Force. Contact us for more details. Can kids play too?Yes! Even though our games are designed to challenge adults, sometimes kids are the ones with the creativity to find a solution.
In particular, we have designed the Paris Escape game with a few easier puzzles to allow youngsters from 10 and older to participate through many of the puzzles with some adult guidance. Our other escape room games have a suggested age of 15+ due to the complexity of the puzzles within the game, not due to adult themes or any scary elements. Please note that all players 15 and under must have at least one adult with them in the game room for safety and insurance purposes. Can I get hints?Of course! We offer unlimited hints to you while you're playing, with no penalty applied for hints.
That said, there's a great deal of satisfaction in solving the room without any help. But really: if you need help, ask for help. There are only 2 of us, can we play? Our games are all quite challenging, and will be pretty tough for you to complete unless you have played escape rooms before. If this is your first experience, then we highly recommend the Paris Escape game for your first escape room, followed by the Baker Street Mystery which would offer you a great challenge.
Our Ransom and Bank Heist games offer a much greater challenge, and is recommend for more than 3 players based on the difficulty, number of puzzles, and success rates for smaller groups. Find a few friends and try them out with a bigger group for even more fun! Please note that there is a minimum 3 player charge for bookings held on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Bookings held on NSW Public Holidays require a minimum 4 player booking. If you choose fewer players for these days, the total price will be amended to meet the booking minimums. There are lots of us, can you fit our group? We can host large groups by splitting the team into multiple games playing at the same time, making it a perfect escape room activity for corporate events, team building and social activities with your colleagues, as well as for an escape room birthday party and as a fun escape room nearby with your friends.
Our escape room games can each hold a group of around 8 players. With all five games booked for the same session, for example, we can comfortably host escape room games for 40 players at the same time. We don't have any options for food or drinks onsite, however, nor do we have a party room. The Lord Raglan Hotel is right next door to us, offering food and drinks, and we're sure they can cook far better then we ever could. Alternatively there's a great café nearby The Grumpy Barista if you need a coffee fix or sugar rush. |
Do I need to book a room in advance?Bookings are essential in order to get the time slot you desire.
While we are often open, we operate on a reservation system tied to the reserved game sessions, and entry to a game is limited on room availability at the time. A reservation in our booking system will ensure that we are open and ready to accept you on your arrival. What happens when I arrive? Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled game time. When you arrive at Social Escape you are greeted in the waiting room. There is no need to print your booking. Simply tell us the name of the person who made the reservation and we will confirm your booking.
When everybody is gathered we will start a brief explanation of the game and how everything works. You don't have to bring anything with you, just your wits and curiosity. Do I need to be strong? All of the puzzles and clues have been designed for people of all ages to solve. There is no need to lift or move any heavy furniture. There is no physical strength needed for any of our games. What you will need though is your mental force. You have to solve puzzles, quizzes and brainteasers. Please handle all props, furniture and items with care. Damage to any item or furniture will be your responsibility.
What if I need to change my booking? We will happily change your booking to another date or time, with more than 24 hours notice, without any fees. Provided the new time is available, of course.
Less than 24 hours notice and we will add on a $50 administration fee to your booking, which is used to cover the cost of our staff that were rostered on for your game. Is the game wheelchair accessible?Unfortunately our venue is located up on the second floor of our building, with stairs to climb to enter our location. We would like to cater to all people though, and would be happy to try and find any compromise that would work for you.
Call us if you have any accessibility questions and we would be happy to discuss the building layout and options to help you have an enjoyable experience. Is there parking at Social Escape? No, but there's usually lots of street parking nearby. Try looking along Wyndham Street for spots, or alternatively there's often lots of space along Buckland Street (one block away).
But who drives a car these days? Redfern train station is 600m from us (a 7 minute walk), and Green Square station is 1.2km away (a 15 minute walk). What if I don't escape in time? You are trapped forever!
Just kidding. We will free you after the hour is up and walk you through the remaining puzzles to see the final solution. |
